|CSIR-CLRI has been significantly contributing for the growth and development of the rural sector. Conventional practices followed by rural artisans are improvised by technological interventions. Artisans engaged in rural tanning and making Kolhapuri chappal are some of the glaring beneficiaries in this regard. Important leads beneficial for the rural artisans are developed and translated to the beneficiaries. Field demonstration of the improvised leads is conducted through the regional centres of this Institute. Appropriate training of the rural artisans is also organized. Rural technological leads emanating from CLRI have already helped significant rural population engaged in making of leather/footwear in different parts of the country, thereby adding to the societal contribution of the Institute. Some of the important rural technologies of this Institute are highlighted below.
