An acrylic grafted nanoclay copolymer composite and a process for the preparation thereof
Disclosed herein is an acrylic graft nanoclay copolymer composite, prepared via a controlled polymerization technique. It is essentially an anionic liquid dispersible in both polar as well as non-polar solvent. It exhibits thermal stability in the range of 200-240 oC and a shelf life of 6-12 months. The composite has wide application in leather, adhesives, coating, ceramic, cosmetic and biomedical industries. In the leather processing industry, it finds application as filling cum retanning agent. It may also be used for coating applications in leather finishing. Further, it has potential application in the product industry to enhance the thermal, structural, mechanical properties as well as resistance to UV and microbial agents. An improved polyurethane foam and the process for the preparation thereof
Disclosed herein is a flexible polyurethane-layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanocomposite foam, that finds application in consumer product industries. The polyurethane foam exhibits good flexibility, thus making it suitable for applications where repeated flexing is required, e.g. shoe sole. In footwear industry, the foam is useful in making injection molded footwear and also in footwear components such as outsole, midsole and in-sock. The foam is environmental friendly, halogen free and cost effective. A process for preparation of the polyurethane foam is also provided. Indian Patent application no. 201811017729


A process for the hydrolysis of aliphatic and aliphatic-aromatic polymer and mixture thereof
Disclosed herein is a process for microbial hydrolysis of aliphatic and aliphatic-aromatic polymer and mixture thereof, within a period as short as 10 days using a hydrolysis medium containing salt or buffer or nutrients. This bio-mediated process is envisaged to have potential application in hydrolysis of polymeric materials used in packaging, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. The polymer hydrolysate produced by the process contains depolymerase which also finds several industrial applications. The biomass used in this process finds application in repeated batches for polymer degradation, rendering the process very economical. Indian Patent application no. is 201711004359.


A novel Polycationic Peptide Conjugated Graphene-Metal Nanocomposite and A Process for Preparation thereof
Disclosed herein is a novel polycationic peptide conjugated graphene-metal nanocomoposite comprising graphene, metal nanoparticles and polycationic peptide. The compound exhibits stability at wide pH (2.010.0) and temperature (440 °C) range. The process of preparation of the novel nanocomoposite is also provided. The compound exhibits a combination of catalytic, antibacterial, anti-fouling and adsorptive properties. It demonstrates catalytic activities in hydrogenation reaction of p-nitrophenol, and oxidation of orthophenyldiamine, and monosaccharides, and therefore can be used for synthesis of small organic molecules. The compound can also be used for separation and removal cations, anions, and microorganisms from water. It prevents adhesion of bacteria to itself. Indian Patent application no. is 1886DEL2015.


Cationic Biosurfactant Immobilized Functionalized Nanoporous Activated Carbon matrix and a process for the preparation thereof
Disclosed herein is Cationic Biosurfactant Immobilized Functionalized Nanoporous Activated Carbon matrix. The product can be made in the form of capsules and used for the in situ remediation of heavy metal contaminated sites. The capsules can be regenerated by cation exchange method. The invention leads to an efficient removal process for heavy metals. It may also be used for remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil. Indian Patent application no. is 3318DEL2015.

Nitrogen doped nanocrystalline zinc oxide and a process for the preparation thereof
Disclosed herein is Nitrogen doped zinc oxide (NZnO) exhibiting uniform particle size. It finds application in chemical industries for the purpose of UV-Visible photocatalysis during organic oxidation and also for water splitting. The product exhibits remarkable photocatalytic activity even after the fifth cycle of reuse without losing its original catalytic activity. Further, it may be used as an anti-microbial agent in pharmaceutical industry. It has enhanced anti-microbial activities compared to standard Streptomycin and Ketoconazole. The unique feature of its preparation is that it involves a single step process and is cost effective. Indian Patent application no. is 3511DEL2015.

A pyrene- dihydropyrimidine- dione compound and a process for the preparation thereof
Disclosed herein is a pyrene- dihydropyrimidine-dione compound useful for biosensing applications. It finds application in sensing of toxic metal cations. It is useful as optical and fluorescent chemosensor for detection of mercury Hg2+ with higher sensitivity and selectivity over other metal ions in aqueous medium. It also finds applications in the detection of Hg2+ ion present in the biological cells, only when the Hg2+ ion concentration exceeds the toxic level. The compound shows white light luminescence in its aggregated state when illuminated with UV-light. A process for the preparation of the compound is also provided. Indian Patent application no. is 201611003054.

A Condensate of Amino Resin with Polysaccharide and/or Polyphenol and a process for the preparation thereof
A novel condensate of amino resin with polysaccharide and/or polyphenol is provided. It is free from formaldehyde, an environmentally toxic component. It is envisaged to have enormous application in plastic, furnishing and leather industries as a potential eco-benign replacement to melamine – formaldehyde resins. The condensate involves the use of waste/by-products of milk, meat and leather industry. In other words, it provides an economical option to use industrial wastes without adding to environmental pollution. It provides opportunity for utilizing waste products of leather, paper and meat industries. It can serve as encapsulate of oils, nanoparticles etc. It can also be employed as a tanning agent for tanning industry. It is envisaged to be an ideal replacement to formaldehyde based condensed products employed for retanning and other industrial applications. The invention has been applied for patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 3193Del2012).

A Process for the Preparation of a novel Bio-Absorbable Hyperbranched Poly(Lactide)
The invention relates to a process for preparing hyper branched bio-absorbable polymers. It provides a structural construction of the fluorescent based bio-absorbable polymers. Poly(lactide) is prepared by incorporating structural modification of linear polylactide to hyperbranched polylactide developed with bio-compatible fluorescent core material. Synthesized hyperbranched polylactic acid polymers can be employed in biomedical implantation. After implantation the hydroxyl products improve the proangiogenic effects of the implants with the synergetic properties of lactic acid and fluorescent core. The invention has been applied for patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 3888Del2012).
A Novel Water Dispersible Oligosaccharide –Graft-Acrylic Copolymer and a Process for the Preparation thereof
The process for the preparation of the copolymer of the invention relates to the graft copolymerization of acrylic monomers onto oligosaccharides (molasses). The monomers are polymerized to attain desired degree of conversion to produce a water dispersible oligosaccharide - graft- acrylic copolymer. The acrylic graft copolymer finds enormous application as retanning agent in leather manufacturing. It may also be used as binding material for paper coating.The invention has been applied for patent protection

A novel water soluble sulfonated melamine formaldehyde ionic condensate and a process for the preparation thereof
The present invention relates to a novel water soluble sulfonated melamine formaldehyde ionic condensate exhibiting the free formaldehyde content in the range of 0.01-0.1%. A process for the preparation of the condensate is also provided whereby polymeric formaldehyde is used under alkaline condition. The product exhibits a storage life of around 6 months and is very effective for different industrial applications. The product finds potential application in leather processing industry as retanning agent. The invention has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 2135DEL2008).

A novel viscoelastic polyurethane and a process for the preparation thereof
Thermoplastic polyetherurethane elastomer which exhibits the properties of common elastomer such as elongation and low compression set and the properties of common PU foam such as hardness and density is synthesized by chain extending the isocyanate terminated prepolymer with compounds containing -CO-NH-NH2 group and diol for application as insole, orthotics, and polymeric biomaterials. The invention has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 2413DEL2008).

A process for the preparation of functional aliphatic hydrocarbons from volatile liquid hydrocarbons
The invention provides a process for the preparation of functional aliphatic hydrocarbons from volatile liquid hydrocarbons using activated carbon and metal impregnated activated carbon under oxic atmosphere at a temperature not exceeding 400oC. The formation of the simpler hydrocarbons ensures a significant decrease in emission of total carbon-di-oxide in the atmosphere, thereby providing a solution to reduce global warming problem. Moreover, the hydrocarbons, produced by the process of the invention, find several industrial applications. The main feature of the process is that the process enables 100 % conversion of the hydrocarbon.
The most important application of the process of the present invention is envisaged to be in processing industries for the purpose of minimizing the pollution load by converting toxic aromatic hydrocarbons into simpler aliphatic hydrocarbons. For example, leather processing industry, which is associated with environmental pollution due to the emission of volatile hydrocarbons, is envisaged to be a potential user of the process. Besides, the process finds several other industrial applications. It has enormous potential applications as catalytic converters in automobile industry to minimize exhaust emissions. It may also find application in the energy sectors as an important sustainable source of hydrogen, required for fuel cells in mobile and stationery applications. Moreover, the process is envisaged to have application in petroleum industries for the purpose of oxidation of liquid hydrocarbons in refinery streams. Further, the process may find application in chemical industries for the synthesis of fine chemicals from bulky organic substances. The invention has been applied for patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 709Del2008; Patent pending).

A process for the preparation of polyacrylate dispersion having free monomer content less than 0.1% v/v.
The process provides a method of polymerizing a mixture of acrylate ester monomers under controlled conditions by delayed addition technique. The resulting polyacrylate dispersion exhibits free monomer content less than 0.1%v/v. The product finds potential application in pharmaceutical industry for sustained release of drugs. The process has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 209DEL2001; Patent pending). The technology has already been transferred to industry.

A process for the preparation of acrylate -amino acid nanoparticle copolymer dispersion for industrial applications.
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of acrylate -amino acidcopolymer in the form of aqueous dispersion having particle size as low as 40nm. Polymerisable amino acid is copolymerised with water insoluble acrylate monomer, taken in the form of aqueous dispersion, under controlled conditions to prepare nanoparticle dispersion, which is facilitated by the typical interfacial coverage afforded from selected amino acid. The unique feature of the process is that the process involves comonomer from amino acid/peptide derivative which is biodegradable. The resulting dispersion finds enormous industrial applications in leather processing industry as retanning agents for imparting fiber compaction, improved softness and fullness buffing property. The copolymer may also find application in textile industry. The invention has been applied for patent protection (Indian patent application no. 388Del2006; Patent pending).

A novel ketene oligomer from aliphatic nonpolar amino acids and a process for the preparation thereof
This invention essentially relates to a novel ketene oligomer of the general formula [R1R2C=C=O]n, where ‘n’ is an integer in the range of 10 to 16; R1 and R2 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups having carbon chain length in the range of 1 to 4; R1=R2 or R1≠R2. More particularly, the invention relates to linear ketene oligomers of molecular weight in the range of 500 – 1000 having polyketene structure. The invention further provides a process for the preparation of the novel ketene oligomer from aliphatic non-polar amino acids in presence of transition metal impregnated activated carbon as catalyst. The oligomer of the invention finds enormous application in providing eco-friendly solutions in respect of a range of environmental pollution problems, because it acts as a strong chelator for transition metals to produce an effective reusable complex for inactivating wide spectrum of anaerobes and aerobes in the environment. The invention has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 0393DEL2007).

An improved process for the preparation of carbon nanotube for industrial applications.
The process disclosed relates to the preparation of carbon nanotubes by catalytic decomposition of cycloalkane over a trimetallic oxide calyst prepared by sol-gel method, as cycloalkane being the carbon source, thereby facilitating the catalytic decomposition reaction temperature to be as low as 700-800oC. The invention has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 316DEL2004;Patent pending).

A process for the preparation of metal impregnated activated carbon polymer composite for industrial applications.
The invention provides a process for in situ polymerization of metal impregnated carbon with amine, thereby forming a single matrix composite for the accommodation of both the metal ions and conducting polymer to ensure stability as well as conductivity in the resulting product, that finds application in chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. The invention has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 320DEL2004;Patent pending). The technology has already been transferred to industry.

A novel Platinum-imidazole complex for biological applications and a process for the preparation thereof
The invention provides a new platinum(II) complex that can stain the nuclear DNA exclusively in non-viable cells in a given cell population with no effect on cytoplasm and also in the absence of any external dye. A process for the preparation of the compound is also provided. The complex exhibits strong fluorescence upon binding to DNA exclusively and can be utilized for gel electrophoresis as an alternative to commonly used highly mutagenic ethidium bromide for DNA staining. Indian Patent application no. is 2351DEL2014.

Nano platinum doped nanoporous activated carbon and a process for the preparation thereof
Nano platinum doped nano porous activated carbon (NPAC) is developed using pretreated nano porous activated carbon as the precursor. Nano Platinum doped NPAC catalyst has high capacity to generate hydroxyl radical in presence of oxygen for the destruction of cyanotoxins in aqueous solution at neutral (pH) conditions. This new technique can be applied for the treatment of toxin contaminated water/wastewater without consumption of chemicals /ultra violet light / ozone at ambient conditions. The new process does not generate sludge during the destruction of cyanotoxin from water/wastewater. Indian Patent application no. is 2353DEL2014

Calcium integrated lipase-nanoporous activated carbon matrix and a process for the preparation thereof
Disclosed herein is calcium integrated lipase - nanoporous activated carbon matrix for the removal of surfactants, that remain chemically unchanged and get discharged into wastewater. In this product, the neutral aliphatic non-polar aminoacid is used as a linkage for binding calcium with the nanoporous activated carbon which in turn binds with the lipase. The calcium in the matrix acts as an in-built enhancer and the matrix can be reused. Calcium integrated lipase - nanoporous activated carbon can be considered as a potential catalyst to remove the chemical surfactants from wastewater. Indian Patent application no. is 2223Del2014.

Novel Ruthenium Benzylidene Poly[N-Isopropylacrylamide] Compound and a process for the preparation thereof
Disclosed herein is a novel ruthenium benzylidene poly[N-isopropylacrylamide], exhibiting solubility in water as well as polar organic solvent at a temperature in the range of 1-400C and stability at a pH in the range of 1 to 7. The process of preparation of the compound involves making pyridine-alcohol from bromo-terminated alcohol and esterifying the same followed by polymerizing pyridine-based bromo ester solution to obtain the N-isopropylacrylamide polymer. This is reacted with Grubbs pyridine catalyst under controlled condition and the treatment is repeated to obtain the ruthenium benzylidene poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) compound. The product is envisaged to have enormous application as catalyst in drug and polymer industry, custom synthesis laboratories for synthesizing polymer or drug molecule intermediate at a reduced cost. Since the ruthenium benzylidene compounds are recoverable and reusable, the cost of catalytic process comes down significantly. It may also find application in leather industry for designing smart materials of industrial importance. Indian Patent application no. is 2725DEL2014.

CLRI proposes to upscale, standardize, demonstrate and commercialize, these knowledge prodcuts with the active participation from the private industry
