CSIR-CLRI Knowledge Resource Centre (Library)

Located in idyllic academic surroundings,CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute(CSIR-CLRI) is a global leader in Leather Research with a significant contribution to education, training, testing, designing, forecasting and social empowerment.

Knowledge Resource Centre (Library) of CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai has a premium collection (in print-version) of over 13,000 Books and 25,000 bound volumes of Journals, Abstracting & Indexing Databases, M.Tech & PhD Dissertations, Reports, etc., The core of its collections provides the best information resources in Leather, Footwear and allied areas in addition to Biological, Chemical and Engineering disciplines.

The First and Second Floor of the KRC (Library) having a carpet area of 3730 sq. ft and 3033 sq. ft, respectively was renovated, modernised and inaugurated on 24th April 2019 into a knowledge space which is wi-fi enabled and has dedicated computer terminals with internet connection for accessing open access and paid e-resources.

Knowledge Resource Centre is a hub for access to some of the best collections of electronic resources, including e-journals and e-databases from renowned publishers. CSIR-CLRI, KRC (Library) is a member of National Knowledge Resource Consortium (NKRC). Established in the year 2009, NKRC is a network of libraries and information centres of 43CSIRand 26DSTinstitutes.

Remote Access to subscribed e-Resources through MyLOFT

MyLOFT (My Library On Fingertips), mobile, web app enables remote and reliable access to the subscribed e-resources for the authorized users of CSIR-CLRI. MyLOFT is a personal library, where the needed contents can be included and categorized by the user. MyLOFT allows the user to access, organize, share and read offline all of the e-contents, anytime, anywhere.

Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)

CSIR-CLRI Library has adopted Koha Library Software, the world's first free and open source library system for its integrated library management practices. The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) can be accessed from across the globe to get the details of books and journals available in the Library at krc@clri.res.in.

All the functions of the Library are integrated using the software. The books and journals are bar-coded for seamless circulation (Issue and Return of books).

Library Membership

CSIR- CLRI Staff, Research Scholars, Project Associates and Project Assistants are entitled to access to both Print and e-journals.

Student Members:
B.Tech/M.Tech students (Leather Technology) and M.Tech Students (Footwear) of Anna University.

Corporate Members:
Corporate establishments can become members on payment of Annual Membership Fee. For further enquiries and assistance, please send email to krc@clri.res.in

Non-Members:
Non-members are permitted to use the KRC (Library) facilities for reference purpose only. The Director, CSIR-CLRI, reserves the right to restrict use. Non-members must produce authentication from their respective Institution.

Digital Library Facility

A dedicated Digital Library facility is established at the Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC). The objective of this in-house facility is to digitize, preserve and make accessible the print versions of CSIR-CLRI publications. The books/journals include Leather Science Journal, books published under Leather Technology Mission Project, Survey Reports for which CSIR-CLRI has copyright.

These valuable digital resources will be made available in a compatible format with full-text search capabilities for access as per CSIR Open Access Policy. These digital contents can be made freely accessible to all stakeholders, including students and scholars by configuring and deploying through Free and Open Source Institutional Repository.

CSIR-CLRI Institutional Repository

To promote openness in research and to enable access to the findings of research sponsored by a public-funded organization like CSIR. CSIR-CLRI has configured and enabled Institutional Repository (ir@clri.res.in). This activity is in alignment with the requirements of the CSIR Open Access mandate.

Author versions of journal publications by the researchers of CSIR-CLRI are regularly uploaded in CSIR-CLRI Institutional Repository.

IR@CLRI is under CSIR-CENTRAL, a centralized institutional repository hosting service for CSIR Labs and a harvester service for CSIR Institutional Repositories. IR@CLRI is OAI-PMH Complaint and is configured and customized on the central server to enable regular harvesting by the central harvester. This value-added service enables the research community to search and view the R&D literature from different CSIR Institutes through a single console.

IR@CLRI is hosted in “csircentral” server maintained by CSIR- Unit for Research and Development of Information Products (CSIR-URDIP), Pune, India.
