The India Fashion Studio and India Design Club have been functioning as a part of the Shoe & Product Design Centre in CSIR-CLRI.

Many of you may recall that ‘India Fashion Studio’ was set-up in CLRI during August 1993 as one of the five wings of the Shoe Design & Development Centre. The Indian Footwear Industry was at its nascent stage during early 1990’s. With the objective to help and support the Industry with design and range building, colour trends forecasting and human resource development in ‘shoe design and styling,’ India Fashion Studio was born.

To strengthen our support to the Indian Leather Industry in the area of fashion and design of footwear, The Design & Fashion Studio is set-up into an independent unit of the institute.

This arrangement came into effect from 1st May 2020.

After a pre-START on 11th May 2020, Team Design & Fashion Studio have had a formal 'ReSTART’ today, i.e. 29th May 2020. This was marked by the launch of the new logo of the Design & Fashion Studio, planting of samplings and our preparedness to release the Colour Cards of MODEUROP and FASHION TREND POOL for the Autumn Winter 21/22 season on 24th June 2020.

There is a renewed enthusiasm from the Members of the Industry and Colleagues of Design & Fashion Studio through active engagement in sharing of design intelligence since the lockdown. We reassure the Members of the Indian Leather & Leather Products Industry that CSIR-CLRI will always remain a 'catalyst' in the growth of the Industry through our S&T contributions.

In preparation for the Colour Meetings of MODEUROP (www.modeurop.com) and FASHION TREND POOL (http://www.fashion-trend-pool.com) for the Spring Summer 21 season slated for October 2019 in Berlin and in Antwerp respectively; India will present 411 leather/ colour proposals for the season. COLOURS for Spring Summer 21 are inspired by ATTIGIRI, splendor of the Indian Temples.

Colour Cards for Spring Summer 21 released by Director, CSIR-CLRI

Dr KJ Sreeram, Director, CSIR-CLRI released the Colour Cards of MODEUROP and FASHION TREND POOL for the ‘Spring Summer 21 season’ on Tuesday, 10th December 2019.

The Colour Meetings of MODEUROP and FASHION TREND POOL were held in Berlin and in Antwerp respectively during October 2019.

The MODEUROP Colour Card has 27 colours in three colour groups: Sensitive, Impulsive and Constructive; while the FASHION TREND POOL Colour Card has 24 colours in three colour groups: The Vibrant, The Sunny and The Exotic.

The Indian Leather and Leather Products Industry will benefit immensely from the ‘advance information’ on the changing fashion trends, three seasons in advance!

Design Award 2020_JURY Meeting on 10th January 2020

CLE’s DESIGN AWARD 2020 Jury Evaluation Meeting was co-ordinated by India Fashion Studio and was held on Friday, 10th January 2020 at the India Fashion Studio, CSIR-CLRI, Chennai.

India Fashion Studio, CSIR-CLRI supports M/s Ramjee Leathers & Supplies in readying a collection of 'leather garments' for the Spring Summer 21 season in consonance of the Colours of MODEUROP and FASHION TREND POOL for the SS 21 season. CLRI will showcase MODEUROP and FASHION TREND POOL Colours for Spring Summer 21 season at the "Trend Wall" during Leather Fashion Show 2020 slated for Sunday, 2nd February 2020. Mr Yavar Dhala, Convenor of the Show had a preview of the presentation this morning at CLRI and he said 'Trend Wall @ LEATHER FASHION SHOW’ will not only engage the visitors to the Fashion Show, but also provide insights on the Spring Summer 21 season.'

Big in Technology & Innovation: 35th edition of India International Leather Fair 2020 rings in optimism!

Tech Talk: From newer milling methods for last design starting from foot scan to new technologies for leather processing such as pickle free leather, chrome free leather, high performance leather, to development of steel moulds for rubber vulcanization process, development of low-coast aluminum moulds, development of new soles with 116 properties with compliance to suit SWIGGY delivery staff, new finishes for rejuvenating old products and velvet finishes on leather, and last but not least bio-degradable soles made from veg based raw material; IILF 2020 was big in technology and innovation.

Trade Talk: Capacity building for expansion, manufacturing of synthetic shoes and creating manpower were the buzz words.

Missing the Theme Pavilion @ IILF 2020: Discerning Exhibitors and Visitors said that they missed witnessing the grandeur of the Theme Pavilion that would be conceptualized and presented by CSIR-CLRI in association with ITPO, CLE and the Indian Leather Industry!

TATA International Limited (Tannery Division) ready to 'showcase' at LINEAPELLE, from 19-21 February 2020 in Milan. In conversation with Mr SMS Jayashankar, Head, New Leather Development at TATA, Dewas, Mr Shankar was effusive about the categorization of their 'new developments' into TREND DRIVEN developments and CUSTOMER DRIVEN developments: a very effective segregation for TATA's Finished Leather Business.

ISF-IFCOMA-CLRI to work together to see how best to help the Indian Footwear Industry. The trinity will map the problems and aim to mitigate the challenges. "Exchange of Information for material benefits" was the highlight of the discussion.
